How Quick Lime Is Manufactured?

Quick Lime manufacturing involves 4 major stages:


1. Limestone Selection (High Purity)

Best limestone quality:

  • 85–95% CaCO₃
  • Low silica (SiO₂)
  • Low magnesium (MgO)
  • Low impurities

High purity ensures higher CaO output, better reactivity, and superior performance.


2. Calcination in Lime Kiln

Limestone is fed into:

  • Vertical Shaft Kiln (VSK)
  • Rotary Kiln
  • Twin Shaft Kiln
  • Annular Shaft Kiln

Temperature required: 900°C to 1100°C

At this temperature, limestone decomposes and releases CO₂.


3. Formation of Quick Lime (CaO)

After CO₂ is removed, the remaining product is:

  • White/grey lumps
  • Highly alkaline
  • Reactive
  • Heat‐generating

This is Quick Lime.


4. Cooling, Sorting & Packing

Quick Lime is:

  • Cooled to room temperature
  • Crushed into required sizes
  • Screened for quality
  • Packed in HDPE or jumbo bags

Finally delivered to industrial users.

Chemical Formula & Reaction

CaCO₃ (Limestone) → CaO (Quick Lime) + CO₂ (Gas)

This reaction occurs inside a lime kiln during calcination.

Quick Lime is produced when carbon dioxide is completely removed from limestone.
